In the beginning of act 2, the inspector is asking Gerald further questions about Daisy Renton and his connection to her. Gerald admits to his love affair in front of Sheila. After that he let them know that he wants to take a walk. So he left for a while. Then the inspector goes further to Sybill Birling. Before he started with his questions Sheila told her mum, she should be ready for a big chaning in her mind about the situtation, because there is more than it seems in the beginnging. Then Sheila and her mother have a discussion because Mrs. Birling is too cheeky. The Inspector accuses her, that she, as a director of a charity, didn’t help a pregnant young woman who had been Eva Smith. The Inspector also said that Gerald was not the one who got Eva pregnant. Sybil said she felt no regret, as Eva had claimed she was pregnant but not married to the child’s father. Sybil told Eva she should ask the child’s father for money. Then Sheila and Mr. Birling told Sybill to stop talking. In this moment, Sybil realizes that her son, Eric, must be the father of the child. Then act two ends with the return of Gerald.
