At any point in the story take a guess as to how the story (plot) will go on finally conclude. What is going to happen.
Before the final part, where the inspector left the house and all family members were still confused and upset, i thought there needs to come something further. Maybe he will return with more proofs and then uncover another hide of somebody or it turns out as a murder not as a suicide. But then when i read that Gerald found out the inspector was a liar i started to ask myself about the sense of this plot. This all makes no sense without the inspector, why should a stranger come around to tell such a sad story when there is no truth behind? Maybe he is a psycho and the main story is not about Eva Smith’s death but about something Mr. Goole did while he was inside the house or he needed to hide himself for a few hours from the police who is searching for him because he had been broken out of hospital. The sense of the book is the moral behind it, not the actual family and actual death of that one girl.
