Write about the style of writing the author uses

“An Inspector Calls” is written in dialogues with three acts, as a play. Also stage directions are include in the plot. So it is meant to be heard and seen in performance. Priestley has tried to make the dialogue realistic, so it means less emphasis on imagery, but more focus on expressions. The play could fit with three different genres.
These genres are called: well- made play. morality play and crime thriller.

a well- made play is a drama and was very popular in the 19th century. It’s an intricate and complex plot build up to a climax. It’s often concerned with events or actions which happened before the events within the play. An Inspector Calls could be a well- made play because all scenes are influenced by the question, what happened  to Eva Smith.

a morality play has historically the purpose to teach the audience in the seven deadly sins. These sins are: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. An Inspector Calls is a morality play because all actors commit crimes which are similar to the seven deadly sins. So for example, Mr Birling is greedy because he wants more money and Sheila feels guilty because of wrath and envy.

And a crime thriller tells a tale based around a crime. An Inspector Calls is a crime thriller. Even when the main action is about Eva’s suicide and not about a murder. In the end all actors have a potential suspect for her death. Priestley has written the plot in three acts. He cleverly structures the acts so that they end with a gripping open end. There is also final climax and a astonished twist in the final end.

Although Eva’s suicide happened off stage, J.B. Priestely use a language to describe her horific death in the end of act one. The second act ends up with a question. So the audience want to know the answer that brings more strain. (more than 250)

  1. That's what we'd call plagiarism. You can't just copy whole passages from anywhere without clearly referencing it. It would have been ok if you had taken some info from the net if you had referenced it. But you still should have put some of your own analysis into it. I can't give you the point for this post.
